This museum reveals the VMI Cadets on their May 15, 1864 battle and the saga of the entire war in Virginia. Encounter artifacts, murals, and detailed models in the Hall of Valor Civil War Museum. Stonewall Jackson Museum at Hupp’s Hill -- 33229 Old Valley Pike, Strasburg. 540-465-5884. Enjoy handling the museums reproductions of Civil War weapons, uniforms, saddles, and toys, thus experiencing the era in a unique way. Children area includes trying on period costumes, climb into soldiers tent, wooden horses, and learn while exploring historic topic through games, puzzles, and artifacts. Tom's Brook Battlefield -- Civil War History Comes Alive at Tom's Brook, South of Strasburg and West of the Old Valley Pike (US11) in this small community of Fisher's Hill. Here on September 22, 1864, Federal forces, under the command of Major Genral Philip Sheridan, attached the Confederates of Lt. Gernal Jubal Early. Take a few minute to walk along the path throught the battleifed to learn of the struggle made by the men i both armies on that fall day in 1864.
The Shenandoah Germanic Heritage Museum -- 540-436-8016. The Hottel-Keller Museum ownes the Keller Homestead and the adjacent George Hottel Homestead at Mt. Olive, Virginia. The property consists of 392 acres of land purchased in 1750 via a land grant from lor Thomas Fairfax. The organization also operates the Shenandoah Germanic Heritage Museum, in the Loom House at the Homestead. The museum is open to the public on weekends from May through October, and also by special appointment. There is no charge for admission. The George Hottel Homestead is on an adjacent property. Museums Hours: March through August--Saturday 10am-5pm; Sunday 1pm-5pm. Directions: I-81 South, Exit 291. west on Rt. 651 (Mt. Olive Road). At the "T" intersection turn left onto Rt. 623 (Back Road). The museum will be about .7 miles on the right (west) side of the raod. Go up the driveway to the house.
