Hunting

Hunting is permitted following state regulations. When on national forest lands, all persons required  to have a state license are also required to have a National Forest Stamp.  The national forest has a jagged boundary and there are areas of private land entirely surrounded by national forest. Use a forest map when hunting and camping along trails to be sure that you remain on government land.   Maps are available at the local Forest Service Office, Massanutten Visitor Center, and by mail.  Respect the rights of property owners and do not trespass onto their land or shoot toward it when hunting. Be sure to get permission from the landowner before crossing private land to gain access to the national forest. For specific information about state licenses and regulations, contact:  Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.  A hunting license may be purchased at  many of the local stores near the Lee Ranger District.
